There has been a travesty in our midst. Jerry Cox, a 24-year veteran of the Cobb County Police Crossing Guard corps, has been accused of aggravated child molestation against the 12-year-old daughter of a family friend. Mr. Cox, who is a Georgia native and a resident of Marietta for the last 26 years, is a father of 4 and a grandfather of 6. He and his wife, Eula, have been married for 24 years. They have been active members of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Marietta (formerly Providence Baptist Church) for the past 25 years.
In his life, Jerry has never been accused of a crime and has no prior criminal record. The children that he crosses to school all recount fond memories of "Mr. Jerry". A perennial figure in front of Tritt Elementary, Hightower Trail Middle and Walton High School, Mr. Jerry can always be counted on to wave traffic by and make sure that our children have been safe on their way to school.
Now, he needs our help. On July 13, 2009, Jerry Cox was arrested and placed in the Cobb County Jail for 4 counts of aggravated child molestation against a 12-year-old girl. At this point, there are no other allegations or evidence against Jerry. Jerry has known the victim's family for approximately 18 years. Cobb County immediately terminated him upon his arrest and his wife has been unable to work due to illness. No one needs to be reminded how expensive legal fees can be and to defend oneself against baseless accusations can be very expensive and time consuming.

When we spoke with Jerry, he said that he is "baffled by these charges" and "grateful for anything that is done to help him prove that he did not do this."
